Road Trip With Goose
We created a hashtag for my best friend Cameron being a "third wheel". Full story is on my Instagram as #somethingsomethingthirdwheel and it's hilarious. We flew into Dublin and stayed for two nights near the city center.
We took our trip the first week of May and we must have been super lucky but we had perfect weather the entire 9 days we were there. We were almost a little disappointed because we brought so much rain gear with us but hey, no complaints! I do have a list of things you should definitely bring though should you be going during "normal" Irish weather.
Malahide Castle was pretty neat. We bought the option of taking a bus out to the castle, tour it, then take a bus to Howth, a small pier town nearby. Link below.
I have a thing for window views.
The small pier town of Howth where the bus stopped.
Like the time my best friend Laura happened to be in Paris the same time as me, the same thing happened with my brother in Ireland as well. We met up and went to dinner at a place called The Hairy Lemon. Nice, little crusty restaurant with super delicious food.
Jake had a birthday while we were in Ireland (Cinco de Mayo) so I had a special labeled bottle of champagne waiting for us at the hotel as a surprise. We also went to a dinner theater show at Celtic Nights where they wished him a happy birthday and sat us front row. The show consisted of live Irish folk music and river dancing. Food was amazing too. Link below.
Fair warning, you will be driving quite a ways to get to the Cliffs but it is well worth it. Be sure to bring a hat! My ears were in so much pain from the windy chill.
Also be advised that they do drive on the left side of the road and most cars are manual. On top of that, the roads are unbelievably narrow. I about had 30 heart attacks while Jake drove. He did a great job but it is just so stressful if you are not used to it. To get to the more remote locations, I would suggest renting a car, and there is a WHOLE lot more to it than simply renting. I will try to write a post simply for those instructions. Link below.
This was a little outside Athlone, a small town dead center in the middle of Ireland. Athlone is home to Sean's Bar, the oldest bar in Ireland.
Sean's Bar dates back to 900 A.D. Definitely an authentic, crusty experience with great beer and Irish coffee.
